Dental Implant, Crown tooth #9
Tooth #9 is the upper left central incisor (the front tooth left of the midline). This series of blogs shows the many steps and components to replacement of tooth #9 with an extraction and dental implant rather than restoring a broken tooth with extensive gum work, root canal therapy, post and core build up and new crown. All dentistry was done in my Palm Harbor, Tampa Bay Fl area dentist office for an existing long term patient. More information about the alternatives to periodontal surgery (including prices) can be found by clicking: www.PeriodontalDisease.us

Dental Implant for tooth #9
The temporary removable tooth (flipper) is seen in this picture. Above the flipper the healing abutment can be seen. The crown is being fabricated at the dental lab when a dental implant restoration for tooth #9 is done this way. Dental Implant Crown for tooth #9 on abutment
In this picture taken in my Palm Harbor, Tampa Bay Florida area dental office one can see the crown for tooth #9 seated on the dental implant abutment with the fixation screw prodruding. In the previous blog, the three components were shown separately. The reason for the dental implant in the first place was this gentlemans tooth #9 fractured below the gum line. To have saved his tooth would have required periodontal procedures, root canal therapy, post and core build-up and a new crown. Quite a bit of dentistry with a poor long term prognosis. The tooth was extracted under local anesthia (some patients prefer sedation), Restorative options are a removable partial, a fixed bridge or implant dentistry. Implant dentistry was chosen. Picture of Dental Implant fixation Screw, Abutment, Crown Tooth #9
I am often asked, “What is a dental implant abutment?” Seen in this picture begining on the left is a fixation screw, a prepared dental implant abutment and a crown for tooth #9. The fixation screw goes thru the hole in the abutment and secures it to the dental implant. Then the crown gets cemented to the dental implant abutment. A dental implant supported crown is preferable to a removable partial or tooth supported fixed bridge in most situations.
How to Fix badly decayed, broken teeth #18,19
Teeth #s 18 & 19 are the lower left second molar and first molar, respectively. In this picture, these teeth have broken and tooth decay is present. Options for treatment are crowns or extraction. At this time the dental disease is not to the point where root canal therapy is indicated. This patient choose to keep her teeth with me doing all dentistry in my Palm Harbor FL dental office with the help of my long time dental assistants, Sue and Marti.

Picture of Dental Implants & Crowns
This is the pre-treatment picture/condition of the 81 year old man that wrote the previous testimonial. He presented to my Palm Harbor FL dental office with the chief compaint of two loose lower front teeth ( tooth #25 and tooth #26). He was missing tooth#23 and was using a lower flipper or acylic removeable partial. He was interested in 3 non-removeable, dental implant supported teeth (to replace teeth # 24, 25, 26.)

Picture of Dental Implant Custom Abutment & Crown
Seen in this picture is the dental implant custom abutment fully seated on the dental implant. The fixation screw is fully tightened. Use of a custom abutment here allows for the best possible esthetics as the angulation and size of this dental implant custom abutment is precise to this patient’s particular situation. Care and precision at each step will give this patient the best and longest lasting final result: a non-removable tooth #6. Picture of Dental Implant Custom Abutment & Crown
This picture shows a temporary crown on a prepared standard straight dental implant abutment in the tooth #6 position. Much care was taken to precisely position the dental implant in the upper jaw. This means the implant is aproximately 25% off from the angle of the final position of the desired tooth (crown) #6. Using the latest technology, a custom abutment and procelain fused to metal crown were fabricated. Although I have been placing and restoring dental implants since 1989, huge advancements in technology have made the esthetics of resortations (crowns, bridges, overdentures and partials) significantly more natural looking.

Tooth #4
Tooth #4 is an upper right second bicuspid. This tooth is very important from both a funcional and esthetic point of view. It’s partner tooth on the upper left is tooth #13. It most commonly has one root with one root canal chamber.
