Bone Graft tooth #8 site

The white-ish particulate material in the round container is  processed/treated human bone.  Human bone (allografts) are used frequently in many medical procedures.  This bone will be placed into the fresh extraction site of tooth #8.  This type of dental bone graft is called a “site preservation graft.”  The post tooth extraction site’s size will be maintained due to the fact that the hole (remaining socket where the tooth was removed) will be filled with bone and covered with a membrane.  A future blog will show a resorbable membrane.Bone 300x225 Bone Graft tooth #8 site  My previous blogs showing dental bone grafts prior to dental implant placement demonstrated the use of non-resorbable membranes.  All the dental work, from diagnosis and treatment planning to final crown placement is done in my Palm Harbor, Tampa Bay FL area dentist office.  Some procedures are performed with sedation, others with only local anesthesia.

Dental Implants – Mini Dental Implants – Tooth # 25

How 2 300x225 Dental Implants Mini Dental Implants Tooth # 25A dental implant is a man-made tooth root.  Dental implants are made in different shapes and sizes to correspond to the amount of available jawbone in each particular patient and each location within the same patients mouth.  One size does not fit all everyplace.

A mini dental implant is a cylindrically shaped dental implant with a  cross-sectional diameter of less than 3mm.  They have been appproved for use in the United States of America for definitive replacement of teeth #’s 7, 10, 23, 24, 25 and 26.  They also can be used quite successfully in other positions.

This is a picture of a MDL mini dental implant being inserted into the jawbone of a man in my Palm Harbor, Tampa area dentist office.  The missing tooth is tooth # 25.  The surgical placement and dental crown in this tooth # 25 position were completed in 2011.  At the time of this posting, this gentleman has been comfortably functioning with this very health dental implant / dental crown for more than 6 months.  With proper care, this comprehensive dental restoration may last a lifetime.

Dental Implant abutment tooth #9

Dental Implant Abutment tooth #9

Tooth #9 is the upper left central incisor – upper front tooth left of midline.  In this picture a prepared standard straight abutment can be seen as it emerges from the dental implant.  After the natural tooth broke off below the gum line, it was decided to extract the tooth, graft the site, and restore the smile with a dental implant and single crown.  The other possibilities included a removable tooth, a fixed non-removable bridge or periodontal (gum) care, root canal therapy and a crown.  This choice was made in my Palm Harbor Tampa Bay Florida area dentist office.  More information about my current dental implants prices can be found by clicking:  www.DentalImplantsCost.us

Standard Abutment

The prepared standard straight abutment seen in this picture could be used to support a crown.  In my early years of restoring dental implants, I would have done just that.  Now optimal esthetic’s are acheived with the use of custom abutments.  A custom abutment will typically cost several hundred dollars in additional cost, but in my opinion it is minimal compared to the final esthetic result.  Sedation is typically not used at this stage of implant dentistry, but can be.
